Character Concept Art: From Initial Sketch to Final Design

Working on character design elements using silhouettes and using value painting to achieve characters. These are the initial thumbnails for a demon slayer character inspired by the characters and universe of Devil May Cry.

Looking forward to bringing the characters out in some of these designs. This tutorial project is from Charlie Bowater who features in Imagine FX magazine the direction from her tutorials are great and so far I'm really enjoying them!

Painting finished

Finished this up this evening and I'm feeling pleased with the end product. A few things that I need to work on and will definitely be looking into. I have signed up for a skillshare course by the brilliant Charlie Bowater who features in ImagineFX quite a lot and I am excited to continue to develop character design skills and many other skills.

Female Digital Paint

Just continuing to try and develop myself in my digital paints. They are getting better in terms of understand skin values but I need to work on anatomy and hair. I like the head shot but am not too sure of the overall body. I am going to work at this and I definitely feel that I'm making progress.

CGAA Speed Paint Challenge - What If?: No.1/Hepworth's City

This is my attempt at the recent CG Arts and Animation blog speed paint challenge. This particular challenge focused on creating a city designed by Barbara Hepworth.

I had to think for a while on how to composite this image but it was great practice. I took some inspiration from some of Hepworth's other work as well ending up with a sci-fi city.

Digital painting practice Captain Max Rogers...

Getting back into painting more realistically I took the idea of me as Captain America...We both have the same second name and my uncles name is Steve...

The first version was created by using values and then overlaying colour. I wasn't pleased with the finished painting so I moved on to try out a different technique.

Pleased with this iteration and it's a step forward in improving my digital painting skills. There is still a lot to work on and I'm ready for the challenge! There will be more exploration into digital painting soon!

New Amarok concepts

Getting back into the swing of using a graphics tablet and created some new content for Spirit of the Snow Wolf. I am going to be working hard to develop my digital painting skills over the coming weeks and I'm feeling extremely motivated.

Amarok landing his jump

Amarok now lands his jump and runs off camera for as much of the environment I have built. I will render this out tonight and I will start a run cycle which I will hopefully finish in time to render out tonight as well then put it together for hand in tomorrow.

Amarok Running in cavern Rendered

Thanks for the feedback Phil I've cut the sequence so the camera rotation happens sooner. In terms of your other pointers -

I will work on finishing the jump sequence however there isn't too much room left for him to run seeing as I modelled only what the camera could see. There may be room for two strides in shot but that's it.

After I've done this I will hopefully have time to do a running sequence...(The renders in the icey cavern scene took roughly 4-5 hours to render so hopefully I have the time to get it done for rendering and testing on the televisions)

Anyways back to the final push! Onwards!

Making of Books have arrived

Through my own sillyness I uploaded the wrong cover and it is kind of blurry and the title doesn't fully fit on the front :( .... but other than that the inside of the book is looking great :D I'm really pleased with them.

Played around with texture and orange lighting

Playing around with lighting for environment

Had some help from Aidan and Alan today and it has really made this environment look the way I want it much like the concept! Alan suggested looking into the textures and creating lighting effects in the textures as well to make certain parts of the environment pop out i.e the dropoff of edges.

Amarok Pre-production Slide show

I have also sent off for my business cards to be made they should arrive this weekend or monday as well :D

Some illustrations for Amarok - Business Card Ideas

With business cards in mind I did some illustrations of Amarok which I think would fit well on a business card. The backgrounds are obviously subject to change but was just a little exercise in bringing cheeky Amarok to life

Updating Atka from feedback

Addition of the marking under the eyes for Atka I think this will make the design work all round now.

Environment design for Action Jump shot

Trying to open up the crystal cavern environment up for more options to create an action shot to show the project off as a game project.

Inspiration for action shots

Just looking at different stills from games to give me an idea on how to tackle designing my own shots as to know how much to model for the camera.

Revisiting Atka first attempt

First attempts at trying to add some more wolf-like markings to Atka's face. I'm going to move on and create some designs for the shots of Amarok interacting within the crystal cavern game environment.
